A Guide to the Latest and Greatest Ingredients for Anti Aging Skin Care Treatments

Posted by | Skin care | Friday 20 August 2010 10:57 pm

This is a brief guide for the care to combat skin aging. In this guide, my goal is to share with you some new ingredients must be shown to be highly effective, natural, feel good, and are simply fun to use. Let me start by saying anti-aging skin care does not include acidic compounds that burn with a layer of cells. And for old faces, peeling, cleaning products, as well as alpha and beta hydroxy, or even adequate. In fact, what you really need your skin are the ingredients that promote the growth of healthy new cells. For your face and out of your body, needs nutrients, proteins, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Therefore, these same ingredients are also necessary for the regeneration of cells within the body. Without the right processes, including one of these ingredients in anti-aging skin care is not effective. For example, adding an old variety of antioxidants is not enough. The antioxidants chosen be one that penetrates deeply to destroy the free radicals produced after exposure to sunlight and air pollution. The manufacturing processes in the fight against aging treatments skin care that many do not penetrate as deeply as needed. Only nanobelle CoQ10, a type of antioxidant, has been clinically proven to penetrate deeply through the layers, neutralize free radicals and allow the healing process of the skin, for starters. As a bonus, when CoQ10 and vitamin E are combined, the result is an emulsion that is so thin that it can be easily absorbed through the pores. It is ideal for the skin and feels soft and creamy. Another powerful ingredient is an antioxidant extract of wakame, a type of Japanese seaweed. Wakame is a natural antioxidant that contains lots of vitamins and minerals. Wakame is very special for this reason. It prevents an enzyme that reduces the rate of destruction of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a protein that binds the fibers of the skin as well. By preventing the destruction of this protein levels increase steadily to those found in most of the younger faces. I think I’m safe to say that we all want younger faces, right? So, I want to talk about the reasons of collagen as an ingredient is not worth it. Our faces are composed of collagen and elastin are held together by chains of proteins that act as glue. The collagen used in the anti aging market skin care are derived from cow skin and can not be absorbed or used by the body. It works only as an injection, as “fattening” the deepest layer of the skin stretches and wrinkles. that the fight against aging skin care ingredients that promote the production of new collagen and elastin fibers while allowing these proteins to stay active longer. A good anti aging skin care include Cynergy TK. Cynergy TK has been clinically proven to increase production of collagen, elastin and new cells. Finally manuka honey, a unique type of honey produced in New Zealand, is another natural ingredient for anti aging skin care is especially important for its antibacterial properties. Manuka honey does wonders for skin blemishes, acne and eczema. This can be very beneficial for men who shave or skin irritations. Because Manuka Honey has antiseptic and antibiotic, that’s good healing and hydration. There you have it. The last and most anti-aging ingredients for skin care. There is much to learn, so always keep an eye open for the latest research.

Cosmetics Essentials Part 3 – Ingredients For Homemade Cosmetic

Posted by | Body | Saturday 24 July 2010 12:36 am

In the third and final part of a three part series on cosmetic essentials, we will outline the basic ingredients used in making cosmetics. It is important that you grasp these fundamentals as many if not all of these ingredients must be handled with extreme care.

There are some basic rules to be followed when handling these ingredients. For example a key rule to be followed is to ensure that you or the person for whom you are making the cosmetic product doesnt have an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients. The best way to ensure that you dont have an allergic reaction is to do a pap test on the inside of your forearm, cover it with either gauze or a band-aid, leave it on overnight and if the next day there are no signs of irritation or redness, you can consider it safe to use. Of course if you are making cosmetics for someone else, the only thing you can do is provide a clear label with the ingredients of the cosmetics so that the individual can decide whether it is safe for them to use.

Some other key rules are to ensure that while making the cosmetics that your hands are clean and dry. There is nothing worse than to get high quality ingredients for making cosmetics and to have it spoiled because of foreign material that you might have on your hands. Other key rules are to store your ingredients and cosmetics in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight and to ensure that your containers mentioned in the the second of the series on cosmetic essentials are also clean and dry before you use them. Finally and I think this is rather obvious is to never attempt to eat or drink your cosmetic products.

The ingredients that you use to make your cosmetic products can be broken down into several types. Of course the ingredients that you need to use depends on the type of cosmetic product that you are looking to produce. In general to produce any cosmetic product, you will need to use several types to get both the benefits to your skin and the aroma that you desire. The types of ingredients you require for making homemade cosmetics is listed below.

Plant Oils – These are liquid fats extracted from a variety of plants. Always use cold- pressed oils as heat causes many oils to change their structure. Examples of plant oils are almond oil, sunflower oil and avocado oil.

Macerated Oils – These are plant oils infused with scented flowers or medicinal herbs. Examples of macerated oils are calendula oils, rose oils and carrot oils.

Essential Oils – These are concentrated aromatic essences distilled from some plants. Many of these plants also have medicinal qualities. Examples of the type of plants are are Chamomile oil which has both healing and soothing qualities especially for sensitive skin; Rosemary which is good for hair care; and Lavendar which has cleansing and healing properties.

Plant Fats/Butters – These are solid fats extracted directly from tropical plants that are used primarily in soap bars, moisturisers and creams. Examples of plant fats and butters are cocoa butter, shea butter and mango butter.

Flower Waters/Distillates – These are also called hydrosols or hydrolats. They are generally the by product of the distillation process to produce essential oils, but are now used more widely and many are purpose produced. They are used for moisturisers, deodorants, facial toners and also to freshen up on a hot day or in hot climates. Examples of hydrosols or hydrolats are rosewater, orange flower water and lavendar water.

Herbs/Flowers -These provide the active ingredients in cosmetic products. They are used in skin products, bath products and in tea infusions. Examples are; rose petals which are used for soothing herbs for all skins; vanilla which is used for perfume; and soapwart which is used as a natural shampoo plant.

Edibles – These are ingredients that are used primarily in cooking but also for making cosmetics. Examples are oats which are used for washing and soothing skin, sea salt which are used in bath salts, dental care and body care and citrus peels which are used for skin scrubs and scenting oils.

Miscellaneous – These are various items that are difficult to classify that are also useful for making cosmetics. Examples are green clay that is used for face masks, beeswax which is used to thicken and emulsify creams and salves, and glycerine which is a by product of saponifying plant oils that can be used for moisturisers and as a natural preservative.

So now that we have reviewed all the equipment and ingredients that are needed for making cosmetics, we are ready to get started making toxic free natural and organic products. In our next entries we will start going through recipes that you can use for skin, face and hair as well as products that you can make for your loved ones including your kids.

5 Common Dangerous Skin Care Product Ingredients

Posted by | Skin care | Friday 23 July 2010 11:09 pm

Millions of people every day purchase different kinds of skin care products and more often than not we neglect looking at the ingredient list and simply pick up the first moisturizer or shampoo we see. While some work and some don’t, the question is not how well do they work, but what is in them and are they safe to put on your skin? Well, I did some research and what I found may very well startle you. Many of the most common skin care ingredients are actually industrial strength chemicals that have been known to cause a literal myriad of complications, allergic reactions, and in some cases even death. Below I’ve written down the most common harmful ingredients, what they’re used in, and what kind of damage they can do.

Parabens

Parabens are the most commonly used preservative in the United States. They are cheap, and add a long shelf life to a product. Parabens can be found in everything from moisturizers and sunscreens to lipsticks and wrinkle creams. Parabens have been linked to breast cancer and can cause skin irritation. Many skin care companies are now using natural preservatives in products instead of any Parabens. Look for the words “100% Paraben Free” so you know you’re safe.

Propylene Glycol

Propylene Glycol or PG is found in almost every skin care product in the market. It is used to retain moisture, making it ideal for use in moisturizers and lotions. Propylene Glycol is also a main ingredient in embalming fluid, brake fluid, and anti freeze. It has been shown to inhibit cell growth, as well as causing rashes, tissue and kidney damage.

Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate

SLS and SLES are probably the two most harmful ingredients on the market today and they are found in almost every skin care product around. Used as a foaming agent in many facial cleansers and body soaps it is also a key ingredient in garage floor cleaners, and engine degreasers. Direct contact with the skin causes carcinogenic nitrates and dioxins are absorbed in the skin which can result in some pretty serious complications like liver and kidney failure.

Animal Based Collagens and Elastins

These ingredients are made up of animal skins and ground up chicken feet. They have a tendency to over moisturize and suffocate the skin. The skin must have sufficient oxygen intake in order to be healthy. Because these ingredients are of a high molecular weight they cannot completely penetrate the skin, offering absolutely no use at all other than corroding and drying the skin.

Potassium Hydroxide

Potassium Hydroxide is used as a cutting agent to retain liquidity in many moisturizers. It is extremely corrosive and has been linked to severe allergic reactions resulting in painful burns, rashes and swelling. If ingestion occurs it can cause violent pain, internal bleeding and in some extreme cases death.

This is just five of the most commonly used harmful ingredients in skin care products today. There are dozens and dozens more. I know it may seem like a hassle to read the ingredient list, but I promise you that you won’t regret it when your skin is toxin and chemical free. Use all natural products to ensure that nothing synthetic and dangerous is going into your body.
