why are girls so obsessed with how they look?
I have a group of 4 or 5 close friends. we have all been friends since primary school and still are close now were half way through high school. I wear a bit of makeup sometimes, maybe a little foundation and light lipstick at the weekends if im going shopping in town but that’s it. BUt my friends are al obsessed!!! One of them, who’s only 14, is orange, and i mean she’s actually orange from using sunbeds. also her skin is really lumpy now and it never was before. My other friends all cake makeup on their faces. they think it looks fab, but you can tell its makeup! its patchy and they have rings around their necks. its awful. it looks tarty to be honest as they just wear far too much. The mascara runs and gives them panda eyes. their faces are a different colour from their necks and they use fake bake which is also ridiculous looking. then come the high heel shoes, handbags that are too heavy for them to carry and they cant even walk in case there’s a slight wind that might blow their perfect hair out place (not that their hair would move as there’s a full tin of hair spray holding it firm like a brick). they have a good laugh at me because i don’t look like them- but in all honesty, who the hell would want to????? i dress well, i take care of my skin, i cleanse tone and moisturise. I shower daily and use deodorant and perfume as i like to smell fresh. so what is wrong with that? Im not a size zero, im a size ten, and my clothes fit me, they are not hanging off my bum or hips and i don’t need to buy padded bras as i fill mine! im not fat, i eat healthily, i exercise, but most of all i have fun! I don’t panic if there’s a wind or run for cover if it rains, so whats wrong with me not looking like my friends. I don’t have a boyfriend, but that’s my choice, who cares if there’s a guy by your side watching every move you make and then you end up paranoid about speaking to other guys! its madness as far ad im concerned. Im not ugly, but i don’t think im gorgeous either. Perhaps my friends have an issue with how they look and that’s why they mask themselves with gunge! am i the only 15 year old, or the only female even who feels this way, because as far as i can see EVERY ONES wearing make up and trying to impress!!!
Because if they don’t, other girls and lads will laugh and say their ugly that’s why….However my gf wears no make up and I love her and respect her more than anyone else in the world
I think it’s instinctive in many and also societal expectations. From a guy’s perspective I would probably be more attracted towards your type, as vanity and self-obsession is a complete turn off for many guys.
The media is to blame for a lot of this. The media targets these people because the media knows that these types of young people are naive impressionable and easily influenced by magazines, papers and other people. Basically unintelligent immaturity. They need to go back to basics and learn what life is really about instead of trying to copy some celebrity that they are NEVER going to be-able to look like. I would rather be myself , confident, intelligent and Natural, trust me you would be far more liked by people than to act like some desperate unintelligent wannabe that needs to get a clue and never commands respect because they just act stupid so that’s of course how people are going to treat you. Your wise and have the right idea.
Because women are shallow misguided selfish idiots who have delusions of grandeur. If I was you stop worrying about your fake mates, if you feel true to yourself then that’s all that matters.
Because allot of girls including me have insecurities and make up might help them feel like there mask and also its up to them what they do so let them do what they want everyone has different opinions and allot of girls feel ugly with out make up so they wear it.. i don’t see how make up is a problem.
I was like you when I was 15. Don’t worry about it, just be friendly to them, the poor saps. They’ll get the hang of it in good time. Hopefully. Well, some of them will.

I think it’s an Instinct thing, as you grow older, people want to make their selves look their best to find a mate or seek attention.
I think some do go over the top and others just don’t care.
Boys are obsessed too, my brother washes his hair like 3 times a day and uses a hairdryer/Straightener way too much. And no he’s not gay or anything he’s just trying to fit in with the crowed at his school, so more chance of becoming popular with the girls.
